A horrible tour of Australia proved to be the final chapter in Rohit Sharma’s Test career. The 2024/25 Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) gave India a chance to complete a hat-trick of Test series wins Down Under. But it all went haywire. Rohit, who played three of the five Tests, was non-existent as a batter, scoring 31 runs at 6.20 and India lost the series 3-1.
But it wasn’t the only chapter for Rohit. The former India captain has been part of both the famous Test series wins in Australia. In 2018, he played a part in the win in Melbourne before again scoring crucial runs as an opener in 2021. So, Rohit has seen both sides of the coin in Australia, unlike England, who are enduring one of their toughest Ashes tours.
Rohit Sharma: ‘England ko pucho’
While speaking at an event at a university in Gurugram, Rohit took a dig against Ben Stokes’ England, who have lost the Ashes 2025/26 within 11 days of play. Australia, despite not having Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins (for two Tests), and an ageing team, dominated the Three Lions to go 3-0 up in the series. While speaking at the event, Rohit said that it is not at all easy to play on Australia soil.
“Australia mein khelna sabse difficult hai, aap England ko puch he sakte ho (playing in Australia is the most difficult, you can ask England about it),” Rohit said at the event, taking a sly dig at the English team.
Australia is hosting the fourth Ashes Test against England from December 26 to 30 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). With the series already in the bag, Australia aims to keep its winning streak going and take a 4-0 lead. England, led by Ben Stokes, will be looking to salvage some pride in the remaining matches. Some of their decisions have been bewildering but they can take heart from their grit on Day 5 of the Adelaide Test.
