Arctic Open Semifinal
Sindhu had earlier played in just a solitary final in the BWF Tour this year. It was at the Madrid Masters where she finished as a runner-up after losing against Indonesia’s Gregoria Mariska Tunjung.
It has been a struggle throughout the season for Sindhu. She entered the Arctic Open after bowing out from the quarterfinal at the Asian Games.
The Chinese began her campaign in the tournament by sailing past Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara with a 21-13, 21-6 win. She went on to clinch a comfortable 21-11, 21-10 win against Chinese Taipei’s Wen Chi Hsu in the second round.
In the third round, it was a challenge for Sindhu against Vietnam’s Nguyen Linh Thuy. The Indian had to lose the first game and she made made a comeback to clinch a hard-fought 20-22, 22-20, 21-18 win.

China’s Wang Zhi Yi is ranked World No.11. The Chinese too has been struggling this year. She will be in action in only her second semifinal in the BWF Tour this year. Her last semifinal was at the Malaysian Masters in January this year.
At the Arctic Open, Wang Zhi Yi has given good performances so far. She is yet to drop a game in the tournament. In the first round she sailed past Arin Neslihan 21-13, 21-17.
She faced Indian Aakarshi Kashyap in the second round. She dominated the contest completely and sealed a 21-8, 21-12 victory. In the quarterfinal, she sailed past Denmark’s Line Kjaersfeldt 21-17, 21-11.
