Young Shuttler Bornil Aakash Changmai became the champion in Boy’s singles at the Asian Junior Badminton Championships on Sunday. The 13-year old defeated Fan Hong Xuan of China 21-19, 21-13 in the Under 15 final to win a gold medal for the country. Meanwhile in the girls Under-17 category, India’s Tanvi Sharma bagged the silver medal. There was one more medal for the country as Jagsher Singh won bronze in U-15 boys category.

Bornil Changmai becomes second Indian to win gold
The 13-year-old Bornil Changmai displayed remarkable composure and skill in the final. Bornil, who hails from Assam, became the second junior badminton player after Siril Verma in 2013 to bag the top podium finish in the prestigious tournament.
The Indian shuttler gave consistent performances all through the tournament and had beaten compatriot Jagsher Singh Khangurra in the semifinal on Saturday.
Tanvi Sharma settles for silver
Tanvi Sharma meanwhile had to settle for the silver medal. She went down 17-21, 21-11, 19-21 against Yataweemin Ketklieng of Thailand in the final. After losing the first game, Tanvi dominated her opponent completely in the second game.
The Indian continued to give a good fight in the decider. However she failed to close out the game and ended up on the losing side. She become the second U17 girls’ singles shuttler to secure a silver medal. Unnati Hooda had previously earned silver in the same category.
