At 16, Deepak Chahar faced rejection from Greg Chappell at the Rajasthan Cricket Association academy. Undeterred, he persisted and debuted for Rajasthan in the 2010-11 Ranji season. Learning swing bowling from his father’s coaching academy, he impressed with figures of 8 for 10 on his first-class debut against Hyderabad. His ability to swing the ball in both directions shone through, evidenced by his 30 wickets in 6 matches during the Ranji campaign, aiding Rajasthan’s maiden trophy win. Notable performances include 19 wickets in the 2017-2018 Syed Mushtaq Trophy, including a crucial five-wicket haul against Karnataka.

IPL Career

CSK’s Deepak Chahar returns for the 2022 IPL, amidst a fierce bidding war involving SRH, Delhi Capitals, RR, and CSK. CSK secured him for INR 14 crore. Rising from Rajasthan Royals to Chennai Super Kings, Chahar’s ability to swing the new ball both ways with precision makes him a potent force. Known for handy lower-order runs, his recent impactful performances include a match-winning knock against Sri Lanka and a quickfire 54 against South Africa. Since his breakthrough 2018 IPL season, where he took 10 wickets in 12 matches, Chahar has earned a spot in India’s limited-overs squad.
