"I think Shubman, as a captain, needs to trust him [Washington Sundar]. Because certain players feel they can play a bowler easily, they don't value skill as much as the next person, because he feels like he's an easy bowler [to play against]. It's human nature. "That's why I am repeatedly saying one thing. Why can't we have five ODIs instead of three? Why can't we have a triangular or quadrangular series? Why can't we arrange that, because these two greats play only one format? It won't be wrong to say that if a lot of interest has returned to ODI cricket, these two have brought it," Pathan said.

The BCCI selection committee that includes head Ajit Agarkar, Shiv Sundar Das, Ajay Ratra, RP Singh, and Pragyan Ojha will most likely meet and discuss India's ODI squad for the New Zealand series on January 3. 

The ODI team will assemble in Vadodara for a training camp on January 7, four days before the India vs New Zealand ODI series commences on January 11.
