With $75 million on the line, can EWC 2026 stay on track? Explore how regional tensions in the Middle East might impact the EWC 2026.

The 2026 Esports World Cup aka EWC which is all set to take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, between July 6 and August 23, is expected to feature a massive prize pool of $75 million and 24 different game titles. However, with the latest developments of conflicts in the Middle East and US Israel and Iran War, there are concerns over the event and its feasibility.

Esports World Cup 2026: Current Situation and Challenges

The major concern for the EWC 2026 is the safety of the thousands of players and fans traveling to Riyadh. Recently, some international sports organizations, such as the International Table Tennis Federation, have already shifted their youth tournaments to the region. This is often due to the cancellation of flights and closure of airspace, which is very difficult for international travel.

Logistics are the biggest challenge when dealing with such a massive event, especially when there are over 200 clubs from 100 countries. It is also possible that, in the event the players are unable to fly in safely, there might be delays.

At present, major organizations like Formula One are still monitoring their races in the region, thus showing that many are taking the “wait and see” approach.

However, there has been no official word from the Esports World Cup Foundation about this so far. Saudi Arabia is very keen on its “Vision 2030” plan, and this tournament is a major step in this direction. It will be a major blow to their plans if this tournament is delayed.

Also, the summer dates are still a while away. They may be expecting things to calm down before July. Since most of the qualifiers are already in progress, the tournament fever is very high at this point.

While there are no official plans to delay EWC 2026 as of yet, the threat of war looms in the background. The safety of participants will always be the top priority.

If the situation persists with its effects on traveling and regional security, there might be a “hybrid” version of EWC 2026, with some matches being played online or the event being postponed to late 2026. For now, the gaming world remains hopeful.
