After successful editions in Singapore, Istanbul, and Riyadh, the Global Esports Games (GEG) the international national-team esports championship has made its South Asia debut, with India hosting the World Finals in Mumbai. The tournament was inaugurated in the presence of Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis, with competitions in Dota 2 and Clash Royale.
Team India all set for Global Esports Games 2026
Team India fields a six-player roster at the GEG World Finals. The Dota 2 lineup includes Krish Gupta (Pune), Manav Kunte (Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar), Vishal Vernekar (Ratnagiri), Amit Malwal (Navi Mumbai), and Subhadeep Das (Kolkata), while Anuhith Gosala (Hyderabad) represents India in Clash Royale. Notably, Vishal Vernekar is a bronze medallist in Dota 2 from the Commonwealth Games 2022. The Indian contingent qualified for the World Finals through the GEG Dota 2 and Clash Royale India qualifiers organised by EFlag.
In Dota 2, Team India is placed in Group 2 alongside Ghana and Australia, while Group 1 comprises South Africa, Türkiye, Mongolia, and Argentina. In Clash Royale, India will compete against teams from Cuba, Senegal, Kyrgyzstan, Indonesia, Great Britain, Kazakhstan, Hungary, Portugal, Peru, Benin, Tunisia, and the USA.
Highlighting the team’s strong preparation, Dota 2 Coach for Team India, Darshan Data said “Our preparation for the World Finals has been focused and relentless. The team’s discipline and chemistry have stood out, and we step in confidently, not just to compete, but to bring the title home.” Team India is looking to lift the championship trophy, making a strong mark on the global stage and securing a historic win for the country.
