Can Tho City will become the focal point of the Asian esports scene later this month as it hosts the Esports Championships Asia 2025 (ECA 2025) from November 19 to 22. The event marks Vietnam’s first time organizing a continental-scale esports tournament, a milestone that highlights the nation’s growing reputation in the global digital sports landscape.
Esports Championships Asia 2025 (ECA 2025) Announced
Co-organized by the Vietnam E-Sports Entertainment Association (VIRESA) and the Department of Science and Technology of Can Tho, ECA 2025 will feature around 100 professional players from seven countries—China, South Korea, Japan, the Philippines, Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam. Official tournaments will include League of Legends and CrossFire, while Stepin digital choreography will be presented as a performance sport.
In addition to competitive matches, the championships will host a series of side events such as a business networking program, a signing ceremony for international cooperation initiatives, and a seminar focused on the growth of Asian esports. These activities aim to strengthen regional collaboration and highlight Vietnam’s creative, tech-forward identity through culture and sport.

Mr. Do Viet Hung, Vice President of the Asian E-Sports Federation and President of VIRESA, noted Can Tho’s strategic suitability to be the host city. With its modern infrastructure, active tourism sector, and rich riverine culture, the city represents the heart of the Mekong Delta—a place where innovation meets tradition. According to Hung, Can Tho’s balanced combination of technology, culture, and hospitality makes it an ideal setting for an event of this scale.
ECA 2025 carries broader significance beyond competition. It is expected to support Vietnam’s digital culture and entertainment industries, attract foreign investment from leading esports and tech companies, and enhance the nation’s capability to host international events. The initiative also aligns with Vietnam’s National Digital Transformation Strategy by positioning the country as an emerging esports hub in Asia.
Having previously alternated between China and South Korea for the past four years, the ECA’s arrival in Vietnam reflects VIRESA’s continued efforts to elevate Vietnam’s presence in the continental esports community. The 2025 edition aims to echo the federation’s message: “Esports – A bridge of culture, creativity, and integration in the digital era.
