Yastika Bhatia ruled out of Women's World Cup 2025, Uma Chetry named replacement

Uma Chetry is yet to make her debut for India in ODIs.

India’s preparations for the Women’s World Cup 2025 have been hit with a major blow. Yastika Bhatia has been ruled out of the tournament with a knee injury. The BCCI have swiftly confirmed Uma Chetry as replacement, meaning Shafali Verma continues to remain out of the reckoning.

Injury rules Yastika Bhatia out of Women’s World Cup 2025

Mumbai Indians’ star Yastika Bhatia sustained a knee injury during India Women’s preparatory camp in Vishakhapatnam. Harmanpreet Kaur and Co were camped at the venue ahead of the Women’s World Cup 2025 at home. Bhatia suffered an injury during training which ruled her out of the competition.

“Yastika Bhatia sustained an injury to her left knee during India’s preparatory camp in Vizag. The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring Yastika Bhatia’s progress and the team wishes Yastika Bhatia a speedy recovery,” the BCCI said in a statement.

Bhatia was not expected to be a regular fixture in the first XI, but was roped in as cover for wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh. Her selection was based on her performances for India A in recent times. She was replaced by Uma Chetry, the young keeper from Assam. Chetry is yet to make her ODI debut, and has featured in only 7 T20I games so far.
