Yashasvi Jaiswal could miss the opening few matches for Mumbai in the 2025-26 Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT). The opener felt severe pain in his stomach after his 15-run knock against Rajasthan in a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Super League match.
Jaiswal was taken to Aditya Birla Hospital in Pimpri-Chinchwad for medical evaluation after the match ended. Initially, the doctors diagnosed him with acute gastroenteritis, and he was administered intravenous medication.
The 23-year-old also underwent an ultrasound an CT (computed tomography) scan as a precaution and was advised to rest along with continued medication.
Jaiswal unavailable for VHT
It turns out that Jaiswal was admitted to the hospital due to food poisoning. In fact, the opener lost weight in the last two days and has been advised by the doctors to rest for 1-2 weeks.
“It is food poisoning. He ate something in the Pune hotel, which has led to this. There was pain, but the condition is much better after timely medication. He has lost over 2 kgs already in the last two days, and the doctors have asked him to rest at least for the next 7-10 days,” a source told the Times of India.
This inevitably means that Jaiswal could miss a few VHT matches for Mumbai. He might play the late group stage games, but that isn’t a certainty since the India vs New Zealand ODI series will commence on January 11.
“It will be touch and go for the first few matches for him to turn up for the Vijay Hazare Trophy. There are ODIs vs New Zealand after that too, and he is likely to be in the squad for that series,” the source added.
Mumbai will play 7 group stage matches from December 24 to January 8.
