While all the attention on Tuesday was fixed on the IPL 2026 auction in Abu Dhabi, tensions broke out around India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal after he was rushed to hospital following Mumbai’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Super League match against Rajasthan in Pune.
Jaiswal reportedly complained of severe stomach pain soon after the game and was taken to Aditya Birla Hospital in Pimpri-Chinchwad for medical evaluation. Doctors diagnosed him with acute gastroenteritis, following which the 23-year-old was administered intravenous medication. He also underwent ultrasound and CT scans as a precaution and has since been advised rest along with continued medication. The news was broken by an Indian Express journalist.
Update on Yashasvi Jaiswal’s health yet to come
Despite feeling unwell, Jaiswal had taken the field earlier in the evening and opened the batting for Mumbai. He appeared visibly uncomfortable during his short stay at the crease, scoring 15 off 16 balls as Mumbai chased down a stiff target of 217. The match was a thriller in itself, with Ajinkya Rahane’s unbeaten 72 and Sarfaraz Khan’s blistering 22-ball 73 powering Mumbai to a three-wicket win, though the side was later knocked out of the tournament. It was the last game of the tournament for the defending champions after they missed out on an inferior Net Run Rate (NRR).
According to reports, Jaiswal had been dealing with stomach cramps during the match, with the pain intensifying post-game and prompting immediate medical attention. The BCCI has not issued an official update on his condition yet, but further clarity is expected today.
He scored 145 runs in three SMAT matches at a strike rate of 168.6. He hit a sensational ton to help Mumbai chase down 235 against Haryana. and followed it up with an impressive ODI series against South Africa, where he amassed 156 runs in three games, including his maiden ODI century. With no immediate international commitments and not part of India’s current T20I setup, Jaiswal is expected to have enough recovery time.
