Exclusive: Yash Dhull unavailable for DPL 2025 Final, will join Shubman Gill at Duleep Trophy on Aug 25

Yash Dhull confirms his unavailability for Central Delhi Kings due to the Duleep Trophy.

Yash Dhull has been creating havoc with his bat in the ongoing Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025. Being a marquee player in the tournament, the former Indian Under-19 World Cup-winning captain has been phenomenal for the Central Delhi Kings. However, he has confirmed he will join the North Zone squad instead of the Duleep Trophy, which starts before the completion of the DPL.

Dhull confirms unavailability for DPL final

Speaking exclusively to InsideSport, Dhull confirmed he won’t be available in the DPL after August 24. On Sunday, Central Delhi Kings play against New Delhi Tigers. After that, Dhull will join North Zone, which will be led by Shubman Gill. North Zone’s first game (Quarter-final) is on August 28 against East Zone.

At the same time, the knockout stage of the DPL starts from August 29 and the final is scheduled for August 31. With CDK winning five of their first seven games, it is a formality for them to qualify.

Upon answering on whether he’ll be staying back for the DPL knockouts or will join the North Zone, this is what he said:

It is a fantastic opportunity for me to play at the Duleep Trophy. But at the same time, it is quite important for me to focus on what match I have next. I am preparing mentally well for the Duleep Trophy when I will go there.”

North Zone’s match will start on August 28. So, I’ll be leaving DPL 2025 on August 25. So hopefully, I will play the my last DPL match (August 24).

Yash Dhull’s dream run at DPL 2025

Last year, Dhull saw a health setback when he found out he had a congenital hole in his heart. Upon a routine check-up at the NCA, he found out about it and went through a surgery. But oh boy! How well he has responded.

In the Ranji Trophy 2024/25 season, Dhull was one of the highest run-getters for Delhi, amassing 444 runs at an immaculate average of almost 50. Fans always thought of him as a touch player, tailor-made for 50-overs and red-ball. However, the kind of batting he has shown in the ongoing DPL season is terrific. Dhull has taken his T20 game onto a next level altogether, hitting sixes at will.

He was the first player to hit a century this season before mustering a total of 364 runs at an outstanding average of 121.33 and at a strike rate of 172.51. He has been a wrecker-in-chief, being the player with the highest strike rate in the entire tournament. With this, Central Delhi will certainly deal a massive blow, missing out on Dhull in the business end of the season. The 22-year-old will land in Bengaluru on August 25 before practicing for a couple of days.
