Former India under 19 captain Yash Dhull has scripted history. Although known for his watertighttechnique and red-ball exploits, Dhull has become the first player to notch a century in the second season of the Delhi Premier League (DPL).
Playing for the Central Delhi Kings, Dhull played an unbeaten 101 off 56 and helped his side chase down 175 against Harshit Rana’s North Delhi Strikers. The wicket at the Arun Jaitley Stadium wasn’t a belter for batters yet Dhull made sure he used his experience.
Yash Dhull special: new hope for Central Delhi
Yash Dhull, who had heart surgery in 2024, was forced to miss the majority of the Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2024. He claimed just 93 runs at an ordinary strike rate of 113.41. But after shining for Delhi in the Ranji Trophy, Dhull has taken no time in shutting up his T20 critics.
Opening for the Central Delhi side, Dhull took no time in asserting his authority. Central Delhi, under the leadership of Jonty Sidhu, will play an aggressive brand of cricket and Dhull showed exactly that. Facing star Indian pacer Harshit Rana, Dhull stepped down for a boundary instantly. Then, despite losing his opening partner Sidhaant Joon, Dhull continued.
What was fascinating was to see Dhull use his power game to a great effect. He has always been a touch player, but today, he blazed eight boundaries and seven sixes. His dot ball percentage was just a mere 26.79, a sign of great players. Dhull has never hit a T20 century and his triple digit figure will give him a world of confidence.
Once part of India A setup and former under-19 captain, Dhull’s stocks have taken a hit. But a superb showing at the DPL 2025 will make heads turn towards him. And on Sunday, Dhull had a perfect start.
