This year’s WPL 2026 Auction will be a mega auction, where the franchises will have to build their squads from scratch. As per the rules already communicated to the teams, they can retain a maximum of five players — with a maximum or three capped Indian players, and a minimum of two foreign players.

Also, if a team opts to retain all five, then one has to be an uncapped Indian player. Meanwhile, the slabs for retention are also out. The Auction purse is fixed at 15 Cr per team, out of which the player slabs are as follows — player 1 – 3.5 Cr, player 2 – 2.5 Cr, player 3 – 1.75 Cr, player 4 – 1 Cr, and player 5 – 50 L.

Retention Rules Listed

As per the rule, stated in the report, “If a franchise opts to retain five players, Rs 9.25 crore would be deducted from its purse, while for four, the deduction would be INR 8.75 crore; for three it would be INR 7.75 crore; four two INR 6 crore; and for one INR 3.5 crore.”

In addition, all teams will have the option of RTMs, so that they can retain the core of their sides from the previous edition. But it could be a costly affair too, given they still have to get another 10-11 players each.
