India cricket team could have opted to field Prasidh Krishna in the playing XI for IND vs AUS Boxing Day Test instead of Mohammed Siraj. The 6 foot 2 inch bowler would have possibly been more lethal in comparison to the Hyderabad pacer who tasted very little success on Day 1. Krishna, who has been in Australia for nearly two month now, has warmed the bench so far in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Prasidh Krishna should have played at MCG instead of Siraj
Siraj found no luck with the ball and was slammed all across the park by the Australian batters. He went wicketless in three sessions, and conceded 55 runs in 13 overs. While he managed to trouble Marnus Labuschagne, he failed to find any breakthrough for India in terms of wickets. And here’s where Prasidh could have done a better job instead of Siraj.

Prasidh’s tall frame could have surely helped India at the MCG, with his ability to bounce out the batters. The Karnataka pacer was a part of India A’s XI in their tour against Australia A before the start of BGT. He managed to grab 10 wickets in those two games, including a best spell of 4/50 in Melbourne. Krishna has a natural height advantage that comes of good use for pacers in Down Under and something that Australia have exploited.
The Karnataka bowler played his last Test in January 2024 against South Africa. Krishna has pivoted himself towards red-ball cricket in 2024 and took part in the Ranji Trophy, Duleep Trophy and the Irani Cup tie. He has only played two Tests for India so far.
