India cricket team captain Suryakumar Yadav has revealed that Abhishek Sharma had vowed to win the T20 World Cup 2026 before the final despite his struggles. The explosive left-handed opener reserved his best for the most important clash as he broke free from the shackles of poor form and scored a blistering 52-run knock against New Zealand. SKY spilled the beans on what Abhishek had told him before the T20 WC final and how he had kept his promise.
‘Will play a knock you will remember’
Speaking on a PTI podcast, Surya revealed that Sharma had kept telling him before the T20 World Cup 2026 final that he will win the World Cup for the captain and will play a knock that he would remember for ages. The Indian captain said that the youngster was surrounded by a lot of positivity and that all players were backing him. SKY said that a good knock from Abhishek had been just around the corner and that there was no better place to have done that than in the final.
“But Abhishek’s moment was due. He kept telling me, ‘Paaji, don’t worry, I will win the World Cup for you and play a knock you will remember.’ He had a lot of positivity around him, all the players were backing him and his family was there as well. We knew it was around the corner and there was no better place to do it than in the final,” Suryakumar Yadav said.
After registering three consecutive ducks, Abhishek Sharma’s only effective contribution came in the Super 8 tie vs ZIM where he scored 55 runs. While there were murmurs about dropping him for the final, the team management decided to back him and it paid off.
