Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli need no introduction to the India Cricket Team fans. But the die-hard Team India fans will be disappointed with the ace batter duo not playing in the Duleep Trophy. The BCCI Selection Committee and Gautam Gambhir have decided to give a break to Ro-Ko ahead of the India vs Bangladesh Test series. But that necessarily won’t be an ideal fit, as it should be mandatory for the duo to take part in the upcoming Duleep Trophy.
It was earlier understood that both Rohit and Kohli won’t be a part of the IND vs SL ODI series after the conclusion of the ICC T20 World Cup. But the star batter duo was then convinced by new head coach Gambhir to be part of the series as there would be a long break after the tour of Sri Lanka.
But for the rest of the batters, each and everyone would take part in the Duleep Trophy. In fact, this domestic tournament will serve as a preparatory series before the red ball season kicks in. Apart from Rohit and Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja won’t be a part of the series as they get extended break.

Why Rohit-Kohli should play Duleep Trophy?
A break from play is one of the biggest curses in sports. While players deserve a break, it certainly has its flaws as well. In such conditions, it is crucial that a player remains in regular touch with the sport. While Kohli is spending his time in the UK, Rohit on the other hand has been busy in spending his time shooting numerous advertisement events.
But it is important that the duo batters play the Duleep Trophy. First of all, the star batters will get some much-needed game time and practice before hitting the ground against Bangladesh. Secondly, if the duo plays in the tournament, they will also get a good understanding of the Indian soil.
India toured Sri Lanka in their past series and before that, they played in the T20 World Cup which was held in the USA and West Indies. Furthermore, the switch in format also needs some time. While the ICC event was T20Is, the tour of Sri Lanka was T20Is and ODIs. In fact India last played Test cricket back in January when England toured India. Thus it is of utmost importance that the duo play the domestic tournament ahead of the IND vs BAN Test series.
