In the final group match of the ongoing Champions Trophy, India comfortably beat New Zealand at the Dubai International Stadium by 44 runs. With this massive win, India finished the group stage as the unbeaten team in the tournament. Rohit Sharma & Co topped Group A with 6 points, registering wins against Bangladesh, Pakistan, and New Zealand. With the loss, New Zealand finished in the 2nd position in Group A. Both teams have already secured their places in the semifinals. After the conclusion of the group stage, it is now clear which teams will play in the semifinals against the teams from Group B, where Australia and South Africa have also made their mark for the semifinals.

The last time India faced Australia was in Ahmedabad, during the 2023 World Cup, where Australia defeated India in the ODI Cricket World Cup in India to win the trophy. After this conclusion, both teams met in the T20 World Cup in the Super 8, where India beat Australia by 24 runs. Recently, both teams met in a Test series where Australia won 3-1. However, this will be the first time since the 2023 World Cup that both teams will face each other in ODIs.
