A mix-up between captain Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal led to the latter being dismissed for 175 runs on Day 2 of the 2nd Test

A horrible mix-up between Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal on Day 2 of IND vs WI 2nd Test resulted in the latter being deprived of a well-deserved double century. The southpaw managed to score 175 runs before he was sent packing, thanks to some mindless running and the Indian captain turning him down at the last moment. Jaiswal managed to add just two runs to his tally on Day 2.

Jaiswal misses out on well-deserved 200

The incident occurred in the second delivery of the 92nd over. Jaiswal bolted after driving a full ball to the mid-on region but was turned down by Gill on the other hand. Having realized it too late, Jaiswal failed to make his ground as keeper Tevin Imlach managed to collect the ball and break the stumps. The Indian opener looked at his partner in disbelief as his golden chance to score his third double century in India was thrown out of the window.

On Day 1, Jaiswal registered his seventh century in Tests in the IND vs WI 2nd Test, his third one at home. After scoring just 36 runs in the 1st Test, the southpaw stamped his authority on the visitors with a 145-ball ton, helping India extend their dominance in the game. Since his Test debut, no opener in the world has scored more hundreds than Jaiswal.

No one has even scored 5 hundreds, while the Indian opener stands atop with 7. His centuries have come in 48 innings, 2 fewer than Graeme Smith. It might still be early, but Jaiswal is making a claim to be the best modern day opener in Tests.
