India cricket team batting coach Sitanshu Kotak has brushed aside speculations of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma not being a part of the team’s plans for the 2027 World Cup. The speculation around the participation of the veteran duo in the marquee event has been doing the rounds ever since chief selector Ajit Agarkar had claimed last year that they were noncommittal for the event. Kotak claimed that Ro-Ko continue to be an active part of the team and that they also discuss their ideas with head coach Gautam Gambhir.
Ro-Ko part of India’s 2027 World Cup plans
Speaking to reporters before IND vs NZ 2nd ODI, Kotak remarked that Virat and Rohit were surely a part of India’s World Cup plans, adding that they now wanted the team to win everywhere since they were playing just one format. He claimed that not only the duo share a lot of ideas with other players but they also discuss about the ODI format with head coach Gautam Gambhir. Kotak claimed that he was present during the discussions most of the time and saw them talking to GG always.
“Virat and Rohit are definitely part of the planning. Now that they’re playing only one format, they want India to win everywhere when they are there. With the amount of experience they have, they can share a lot of ideas with other players, and they do discuss. They discuss with Gautam about the ODI format, the matches we have and our plans for South Africa,” Kotak said.
Kohli has been in sensational form since the series against Australia, having registered scores of 0, 0, 74, 135, 102, 65 and 93 in the last 7 ODIs that he has featured in. Rohit, too, has been in insane touch with scores of 8, 73, 121, 57, 14, 75 and 26 in his last few ODIs. The duo have two more international games to go before they go on a long break and return during IPL 2025.
