There was a lot of speculation around — if Virat Kohli would play in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, after it was made mandatory for players to appear in domestic cricket. But then, things are a lot clearer now, as the 37-year-old star has been included in the list of probables for Delhi, for the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Virat Kohli to play in Alur?
The DDCA came up with the list of players recently, that also included Rishabh Pant. “Virat Kohli has confirmed to the DDCA today that he will play the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Though he has nothing to prove it shows that he still retains passion for the game. His recent hundred against South Africa shows he is still one of the best players in the world. Him playing the domestic tournament will be a motivation for the youngsters,” DDCA secretary Ashok Sharma had told The Indian Express last week.
Rishabh Pant in list of probables too
Meanwhile, Delhi play their first match of the VHT on December 24 against Andhra Pradesh in Alur. This would also be the first time in 15 years, that Kohli will play in the tournament. He has been in sensational form for now, and in the last five matches, his scores read — 0, 74, 135, 102, and 65.
On the other hand, it could just be a chance for Pant to come in the eyes of the selectors, after a good show in the domestic competition. He is yet to make a regular place for himself in the ODI setup. He too had last played in the tournament way back in 2019, and overall has only played 4 matches.
