Virat Kohli last played the Vijay Hazare Trophy back in February 2010 for Delhi.

For the first time since dominating South Africa in three ODIs, Virat Kohli has stepped onto the field. The reason? Well, he is gearing up for the much-awaited return at the Vijay Hazare Trophy, India’s premier 50-over domestic tournament. Kohli has been named in Delhi’s 19-man strong squad for the first two games, while Rishabh Pant is the captain of the side.

Kohli makes Delhi return

Delhi’s tournament kicks off with Andhra on December 24 and Gujarat on December 26. It’s uncertain how many games Kohli and Pant will be part of as India are gearing up for a three-ODI series against New Zealand starting January 11.

In an attempt to gear up for the VHT, Kohli was seen hit the nets with the white ball. As per reports, he is currently practicing in Alibaug, address one of his residence.

Kohli was in his beast mode the last time he featured for India, rollicking a huge 302 runs across the three matches. For context, the next best batter scored 164 (Matthew Breetzke). With his two centuries and a fifty against South Africa, Kohli also jumped to second on the ICC men’s ODI batting rankings. Now, he is just sharpening his skills as it has been two weeks since he has played.

Delhi’s squad for first two matches: Rishabh Pant (c), Ayush Badoni (vc), Virat Kohli, Arpit Rana, Yash Dhull, Sarthak Ranjan, Priyansh Arya, Tejasvi Singh (wk), Nitish Rana, Hrithik Shokeen, Harsh Tyagi, Simarjeet Singh, Prince Yadav, Divij Mehra, Ayush Doseja, Vaibhav Kandpal, Rohan Rana, Ishant Sharma, Navdeep Saini
