Virat Kohli breaks silence on 'tragic June 4 heartbreak' after RCB's IPL 2025 win

RCB's Virat Kohli has spoken about the Bengaluru stampede for the first time since the tragic incident that took place on June 4

Royal Challengers Bengaluru stalwart Virat Kohli has spoken about the Bengaluru stampede for the first time since the tragedy. 11 people lost their lives and several were injured as chaos broke out outside the M Chinnaswamy stadium. What was mean to be a celebration for the team and fans after ending their 18-year-wait to lift the IPL trophy quickly turned tragic.

Virat Kohli ends silence on Bengaluru stampede

Taking to social media platform X, RCB shared Virat’s thoughts on the tragedy. The former RCB skipper paid tribute to the fans who died and were injured in the stampede and vowed to move forward with care, respect and responsibility. Kohli’s statement on the incident is a part of the team’s ‘RCB CARES’ initiative to ensure better crowd management in the future to avoid untoward incidents such as the June 4 stampede.

Nothing in life really prepares you for a heartbreak like June 4th. What should’ve been the happiest moment in our franchise’s history… turned into something tragic. I’ve been thinking of and praying for the families of those we lost… and for our fans who were injured. Your loss is part of our story now. Together, we will move forward with care, respect and responsibility,” RCB quoted Virat Kohli as saying.

RCB could be left homeless in IPL 2026 as a result of the tragedy. In the aftermath of the Bengaluru stampede, the Justice Cunha Commission, in its report, stated that the M Chinnaswamy stadium was unfit to hold large public events. The Commission’s report claimed that the stadium’s “design and structure” are inherently “unsuitable and unsafe” for mass gatherings. It stated that hosting any mass events in the future would be an unacceptable risk to public safety. The Justice Cunha Commission has blamed RCB, DNA Entertainment and the KSCA for the stampede.
