While most of the fans will be tuned into the India vs New Zealand 3rd ODI today, some cricketing nerds will enjoy a huge domestic match. Well, after an enthralling league phase and six knockout games, we are in for the Vijay Hazare Trophy final, which will be played between Vidarbha and Saurashtra (Jan 18).
Both teams, despite not having some world-renowned names, have reached so far deep in the tournament only on the back of consistent performances. This is the second consecutive final appearance in the tournament for Vidarbha after they lost the summit clash against Karnataka last year. Meanwhile, Saurashtra are the two-time champions of the 50-over format, having last won it in 2022 when Sheldon Jackson made a superb hundred while chasing 249 against Ruturaj Gaikwad’s Maharashtra.
Fascinatingly, Vidarbha have never beaten Saurashtra in either List-A or T20 cricket. However, they didn’t beat Karnataka until the semi-final a few days ago as well. So, past records are worth nothing on huge matchdays. It is all about who soaks up the pressure of the final aptly.
