Vaibhav Suryavanshi sizzles but fizzles, India U19 romp to 7-wicket win vs AUS U19

Vaibhav Suryavanshi provided a flying start following which Kundu and Trivedi ensured that IND U19 clinched a 7-wicket win over AUS U19

Abhigyan Kundu was the star of the show with the bat for India U19 in the 1st one-day game against Australia A on Sunday. But that wasn’t before Vaibhav Suryavanshi had unleashed his fury on the hosts and showed them why they must be terrified of him. Ayush Mhatre-led IND U19 chased down 226-run target within 30.3 overs, stamping their authority on AUS U19.

Suryavanshi’s red-hot form continues

Coming out to bat at the top of the order in the run-chase, Vaibhav raced to 38 runs off just 22 deliveries, striking at 172.73 before he was sent packing. His whirlwind knock was studded with 7 fours and one six. Suryavanshi’s knock served as an indication that his red-hot form from the series against England Lions earlier this year continues where he amassed 355 runs in the 5 match series.

Meanwhile captain Mhatre and Vihaan Malohtra were dismissed cheaply, managing to score 6 and 9 respectively.

It was then Vedant Trivedi and Abhihyan Kundu who took charge of the run-chase. The latter finished with a 87-run knock off 74 deliveries, striking 8 fours and 5 sixes. Trivedi finished at 61 runs, having struck 8 fours. The duo stitched together a 100+ run partnership to get IND U19 safely across the line and take a lead in the series 1-0.

Batting first in the game, Australia U19 lost both their openers for ducks as Kishan Kumar struck twice in the very first over. While Steven Hogan (39) and Tom Hogan (41) attempted to steady the ship, the hosts kept losing wickets in regular intervals. A show from lower-order batter John James (77 off 68) helped AUS U19 reach a face-saving total of 225/9 at the end of 50 overs. Henil Patel finished with figures of 3/38 while Kumar and Kanishk Chauhan finished with 2/59 and 2/39 respectively.
