At just 14 years of age, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has etched his name in history by breaking the all-time record for most sixes in Youth ODI cricket. The left-handed sensation achieved the feat during the second India U-19 vs Australia U-19 match at Brisbane’s Ian Healy Oval, where he launched six towering sixes en route to a sparkling 70. This is an insane record, considering the Rajasthan Royals (RR) batter has started playing the Under-19 level just last year.
Record-breaking Vaibhav Suryavanshi
The teenager went past former India U-19 captain Unmukt Chand’s tally of 38 sixes, reaching 39 in only his 10th innings, a staggering difference with Chand, who needed 21 matches. By the time Suryavanshi walked back, caught brilliantly by Aryan Sharma off skipper Yash Deshmukh, he had already raised his career tally to 41 sixes.
For context, over 26% of his 540 Youth ODI runs have come via boundaries. He is the next gen superstar. Among Indians, only Chand (38) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (30) come close in this category.
Suryavanshi’s rise has been meteoric. Hailing from Samastipur, he became the youngest to debut in the Ranji Trophy at 12 years and 284 days. He later stormed into the IPL record books with the second-fastest century in league history, also becoming its youngest centurion.
On the youth circuit, he smashed the fastest Youth ODI ton in 52 balls, surpassing Pakistan’s Kamran Ghulam, and owns the record for the most sixes in a single youth ODI innings by an Indian (10). At 13 years and 188 days, he was already the youngest centurion in competitive cricket’s 170-year history.
