The fifth season of The Hundred is set to begin on August 5, promising four weeks of high-octane cricket, that of 100-ball per innings. Both the men’s and women’s tournaments will run concurrently, culminating in a double-header final at Lord’s on August 31. The opening day will see a blockbuster London derby between London Spirit and Oval Invincibles, setting the tone for a fiercely contested season.
Eight teams, IPL investors waiting in the wings
The competition will once again feature eight city-based franchises: Oval Invincibles, Birmingham Phoenix, Southern Brave, London Spirit, Welsh Fire, Manchester Originals, Trent Rockets, and Northern Superchargers. Each team will play 32 league matches before the Eliminator and Final decide the champions.
Interestingly, this will be the final season before new ownership officially kicks in, with IPL-linked investors, including Sun Group (owners of Sunrisers Hyderabad), RPSG Group (Lucknow Super Giants), Reliance Group (Mumbai Indians) and others taking control from October 2025. While their operational contracts are yet to begin, their arrival has already generated buzz about cross-league synergies and bigger player pools in future editions.
