Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli live to fight another day as they chase their 2027 World Cup dream. Playing arguably their final game on Australian soil, the duo rolled back the years to hand India a win in Sydney on Saturday. Rohit Sharma slammed a century while Virat Kohli scored 75 to help India bag a consolation win in the IND vs AUS series.
Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli wave goodbye to Australia
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have given some of their best performances in games against Australia. With the duo now well into father time, another Australia tour is unlikely to be on the horizon. In their final appearance, the Indian veterans gave the crowd their money’s worth.
Rohit slammed his 33rd ODI century breaking a slew of records. He had Virat Kohli for company in a 168-run partnership to seal a rather comfortable win for India. It was their 12th 150+ partnership in ODI cricket, the joint most.
With the win in the bag, Rohit and Virat turned to the Australian crowd and said their farewells. Visits to Down Under have been a large part of their almost 2 decades long careers.
“I’ve always loved coming here and playing in Australia — it brings back some really special memories, especially from 2008. Not sure if we’ll get another chance to tour here, but we’ve cherished every moment,” Rohit Sharma said after the game.
Virat Kohli echoed the sentiment, thanking the crowd for their support.
“We’ve always loved playing here; some of our best cricket has come in this country. And the support has been brilliant — thank you all so much,” Kohli stated.
