India has made it to the 2026 T20 World Cup final with just 10 men. Abhishek Sharma, the world’s best T20I batter, was one of the primary reasons everyone labelled India as the hot favourites for the ICC tournaments. But he’s gone missing.
In 7 innings, Abhishek has scored just 89 runs. The southpaw opener stood out because of his ability to score at astronomical rates. In the T20 World Cup, his strike rate has been just 130.88. Illness, bad luck, or lack of form – for whatever reason, he can’t do well.
Abhishek Sharma will play in IND vs NZ final
But India has backed him. He didn’t go off against the West Indies in a quarterfinal match and in the semifinal against England. The management is right behind him. Man of the moment Sanju Samson has confirmed that captain Suryakumar Yadav and head coach Gautam Gambhir will continue to back the 25-year-old.
“We take care of all of our players. We have a really great environment in the dressing room. Both of the leaders, GG bhai and Surya, have faith and confidence in Abhishek. We are trying to help him the way he actually requires,” Samson said in the post-match press conference.
Form is temporary; class is permanent. That’s why Samson believes. He knows that Abhishek will get into the rhythm of scoring runs and winning matches for India. He expects him to be back at his best in the T20 World Cup final on March 8 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
“I think he has definitely gone through lots of ups and downs in his career. So, he’s also trying to find a way out, and we all are with him. I think it’s just a matter of a couple of hits in the middle, and everything can change in this format. I think we still believe in him, and we feel that the final is going to be his day. I think I kind of feel that he’s definitely going to come off really great on the last day,” he added.
