The T20 World Cup 2026 ended on Sunday with India lifting the title for the record 3rd time apart from becoming the only team to win it twice. A plethora of records were broken in the marquee tournment which produced some mouth-watering clashes and stunning performances from stars, not only from full-member nations but also the associate nations. Let’s take a look at the records that were shattered and created in the T20 WC below.

Records broken in T20 World Cup 2026

1. 3rd title for India

India became the only team to win the T20 World Cup thrice. Before this, they won the inaugural edition of the tournament way back in 2007. They added a second trophy to their cabinet when Rohit Sharma and co. defeated South Africa in the final in Barbados in 2024.

2. Highest total in T20 WC final

India registered a mammoth 255-run total against New Zealand, the highest by any team in a T20 wC final. Half-centuries from Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan propelled India to an explosive start. Shivam Dube’s finishing touches in the final over allowed India to go past 250 runs.

3. India’s 250+ feat

India also became the only side to register two consecutive 250+ run totals. Against England in the semi-final, the men in Blue amassed 253 runs following which they posted 255 against New Zealand in the final.

4. Sahibzada Farhan surpasses Virat Kohli

Pakistan opener Sahibzada Farhan finished as the leading run-getter in the recently concluded T20 World Cup with 383 runs to his name. This is the most runs scored by a batter in any edition of the tournament. The previous best was Virat Kohli, who had scored 319 runs in 2014.

5. Highest partnership in T20Is

Pakistan openers Sahibzada Farhan and Fakhar Zaman posted a 176-run partnership in their game against Sri Lanka – the highest for any wicket in T20Is.

6. Joint-highest powerplay score

India unleashed their fury on New Zealand as they raced to 92/0 in the powerplay, the joint highest score in the first six overs along with West Indies, who posted 92/1 against Afghanistan in 2024.

7. Sanju Samson the GOAT

Sanju Samson scored 89 runs in the T20 World Cup 2026 final against New Zealand. This is the highest individual score in a T20 WC final. Samson was named the Player of the Tournament.

8. An overall run-fest

The semi-final clash between India and England saw 499 runs being posted by both teams. Batting first, India posted a total of 253 runs. In response, England ell short by 7 runs as they only managed to score 246 runs. It was also the second-highest match aggregate in T20I history.

9. Fastest half-century

Abhishek Sharma’s 18-ball half-century against New Zealand is the fastest fifty in a T20 WC knockout game.

10. Sixer king Sanju

Samson hit 24 sixes in the T20 World Cup 2026, the most by a batter in any edition of the tournament.

11. Fastest century

Finn Allen’s 33-ball hundred against South Africa in the semi-final is the fastest century scored in T20 World Cup history.

12. Most sixes in T20 WC history

India slammed 106 sixes in T20 WC 2026, the most hit by a team in the history of T20 World Cups.

13. Highest average

Zimbabwe opener Brian Bennett averaged 146 – the most by any batter in T20 World Cups.
