In the latest development, India cricket team T20I stars Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube will play two games in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025/26 before the IND vs NZ T20I series. The duo, who were recently seen in action in the IND vs SA T20Is, weren’t a part of the squad announced last week by the Mumbai Cricket Association for the tournament. The domestic 50-over tournament is scheduled to begin from December 24 onwards.
SKY, Dube set to play VHT after initial snub
As per The Indian Express, both Suryakumar and Dube have informed the MCA about their availability to play a couple of matches in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The report states that the duo will play two games for the side on January 6 and 8 respectively. The matches will be against Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. SKY and Dube’s inclusion in the squad comes after Mumbai selection committee chairman Sanjay Patil had earlier claimed that certain players would be added to the squad eventually based on availability.
“Surya and Dube have informed us that they will be playing two Vijay Hazare Trophy games on January 6th and 8th. Their names will be added in the Mumbai squad. As far as Rohit Sharma is concerned, he will be playing two league games at the moment,” a MCA official stated.
Suryakumar Yadav’s form in T20Is was miserable in 2025, with the Indian captain finishing without a single fifty-plus score to his name this year. He will be hoping to work on his form and score some runs in the tournament before the IND vs NZ series in January and the T20 World Cup in February 2026. Yadav had earlier expressed his interest in returning to the ODI side but his chances are quite bleak.
Meanwhile, former India captain Rohit Sharma is also set to feature in a couple of VHT matches for Mumbai before the ODI series against New Zealand. Shardul Thakur will lead the side in the tournament.
