Suryakumar Yadav will captain Team India at the Asia Cup 2025. The T20I skipper has been under rehabilitation after undergoing a lower-right abdomen hernia surgery in June. After featuring in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Mumbai T20 League, Suryakumar had travelled to Munich, Germany. Post that, he flew to England to consult with a sports hernia specialist.
“Underwent surgery for a sports hernia in the lower right abdomen. Grateful to share that after a smooth surgery, I’m already on the road to recovery. Can’t wait to be back,” Suryakumar had written while providing an update.
It was reported that Suryakumar won’t recover until August and will therefore miss the upcoming India tour of Bangladesh. The series was postponed, and the Indian T20I captain checked into the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Centre of Excellence (COE) in early August.
Suryakumar Yadav fit for Asia Cup
He started training again after two months in Bengaluru. And now, he’s regained full fitness. Suryakumar passed a test and will be available to lead India in the Asia Cup. He’ll fly to BCCI Headquarters in Mumbai and will be part of the squad selection meeting for the Asia Cup. The squad will be picked on Tuesday (August 19).
“He has cleared his fitness and will be available to captain the Indian team during the Asia Cup. He was at the COE till a few days ago, where he underwent a rehab programme and has now been declared fit. He will be attending the Indian team selection meeting,” a BCCI source told The Indian Express.
Team India’s Asia Cup campaign will commence on September 10 against the United Arab Emirates at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Drawn in Group A, India will face Pakistan on September 14 and Oman on September 19.
