India cricket team captain Suryakumar Yadav’s miserable campaign in the Asia Cup has come to an end, with the batter departing for just 1 run in the IND vs PAK final. The number three batter never looked in good touch in the ongoing tournament and it spilt over to the final as well, leaving India reeling in a perilous position. After scoring 717 runs from 16 matches in IPL 2025, SKY has simply been a let down for Team India in the Asia Cup.
SKY’s miserable Asia Cup campaign ends finally
It took just five deliveries for the Pakistan bowlers to send Suryakumar packing. The Indian captain attempted to loft a delivery over the 30-yard circle off Shaheen Afridi but ended up getting caught out by his Pakistan counterpart Salman Ali Agha who dived forward at mid-off, managed to get his fingers under the ball, juggled twice and got rid of the batter. SKY’s poor form in T20Is in 2025 thus continues, with him managing to score just 100 runs from 11 innings at a miserable average of 11.11 and a sub-par strike rate of 105.26.
In Asia Cup 2025, Suryakumar managed to score just 72 runs from six innings, at a strike rate of 104.22 and averaging just 24. His scores in the tournament were as follows – 7*, 47*, DNB, 0, 5, 12 and 1. While SKY did manage to score 47 runs against Pakistan in the group stage match, he was dismissed for single-digit scores of 0 & 1 in the next two games. His records against PAK in T20Is aren’t great either, having managed to score 112 runs in 8 innings at an average of 16 and a strike rate of 113.13.
SKY’s dismissal in the Asia Cup 2025 final has now put enormous pressure on the middle-order, with the Men in Blue having lost Abhishek Sharma early on in the run-chase. In fact, the Indian captain doesn’t boast of a great record in the finals of T20 tournament finals either (leagues + international) – 115 runs from 8 innings, averaging 14.37 and a strike rate of 108.49.
With the T20 World Cup 2026 just four months away, India will be hoping that SKY pulls up his socks. Else, they would be racing against time to replace him at the all-important number three spot in the playing XI.
