Sourav Ganguly set for CAB return, could replace brother Snehasish as president: Report

Sourav Ganguly is set for a return to administration and could replace brother Snehasish Ganguly as CAB President

Sourav Ganguly could set foot into administration once again. The former India captain is reportedly in line to return as president of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) for a second term. Currently, Snehasish Ganguly, the ex-BCCI president’s brother, is the current incumbent but a change of guard is set to take place.

Sourav Ganguly to become CAB president for second term

Asa per Indranil Basu of Cricblogger, Sourav Ganguly is set to become the new CAB president. Ganguly last occupied the post in 2019 before moving to become the BCCI president. Ganguly was replaced by Avishek Dalmiya at CAB, the son of former BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya.

Avishek was then elected to the IPL governing council, while Ganguly was replaced by Roger Binny. The 53-year-old opted against contesting the CAB elections in 2022, which saw his elder brother Snehasish elected unopposed.

Whether Sourav Ganguly faces any opposition this time around remains to be seen. It is unlikely, given CAB made earlier attempts to get him on board which did not materialise.

Dada had a turbluent stint as BCCI chief. It was marked by his feud with Virat Kohli, who stepped down as captain during Ganguly’s tenure. India were also knocked out twice from the T20 World Cup and lost the World Test Championship Final in 2021.

Should Dada be elected, that would mark the end of his involvement with the Delhi Capitals. Ganguly was previously their director of cricket, but was replaced by Venugopal Rao ahead of IPL 2025. He continued to serve as women’s director of cricket in the WPL and worked with the Pretoria Capitals in SA20.
