Former India cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly has been elected as the new president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB). The Prince of Kolkata, who previously held the position from 2015 to 2019, was elected unopposed to the post. On returning to the position, Ganguly vowed to work hard in giving direction to the immense talent that the state of West Bengal possesses.
Ganguly back as CAB president
As per news agency ANI, Ganguly was elected as the CAB president unanimously in the body’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on Monday. The Electoral Officer of the CAB announced Nitish Ranjan Dutta as the new CAB Vice President, Bablu Koley as the new CAB Honorary Secretary, Madan Mohan Ghosh as the new CAB Joint Secretary and Sanjay Das as the new CAB Treasurer.
“I have worked as a President for 5 years before this as well. We will do what is best. There is an immense craze for cricket in India. There is a lot of talent. It will be our work to give direction to this talent,” Ganguly told ANI after returning as CAB president.
Gangul returns to the position 6 years after his last stint. After completing his term as CAB president in 2019, he moved to the BCCI where he was named the president of the board. Earlier this year, Ganguly was also reappointed as the chair of the ICC Men’s Cricket Committee. He first assumed the position in 2021.
Ganguly’s return as CAB president means his association with Delhi Capitals is perhaps come to an end. He was previously their director of cricket, but was replaced by Venugopal Rao ahead of IPL 2025. He continued to serve as women’s director of cricket in the WPL and worked with the Pretoria Capitals in SA20.
