Smriti Mandhana will be in action today in the India vs England ICC Women's ODI World Cup game in Indore.

A familiar name from Indian cricket’s golden generation is all set to begin a new chapter, off the field this time. India’s vice-captain and star opener Smriti Mandhana is set to tie the knot with music director Palash Muchhal, with the latter confirming the news publicly in Indore on Friday.

Muchhal’s confirmation puts Mandhana rumours to rest

At an event at the State Press Club in Indore, Muchhal, known for his work in Bollywood and his partnership with his sister Palak Muchhal, finally ended months of quiet speculation. When asked about his relationship with Mandhana, the 30-year-old smiled and said,

“She will soon become the daughter-in-law of Indore… that’s all I want to say.”

With that single line and saying it with a smile, Muchhal confirmed what the media and fans had long suspected. “I’ve given you the headline,” he added, almost playfully acknowledging the inevitable storm his words would create.

For months, the couple had remained private despite being spotted together at public events and sharing pictures on social media. While neither had ever confirmed their relationship, the tone of Muchhal’s statement leaves little doubt that the wedding is on the horizon.

Mandhana’s brilliant run of form

Despite India’s inconsistent results, Mandhana has been the team’s standout performer. The left-handed opener has crossed 5,000 runs in ODIs, becoming one of the fastest women to do so. In 112 matches, she has scored 5,022 runs at an average of 47.37, including 13 centuries and 33 fifties. She recently became the women’s best player of the month for September. She scored 300 runs in 3 matches, with two hundreds. Her strike was over 135 as well, which makes the feat even more remarkable.
