The second round of Super League matches in the 2025-26 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) has ended. Mumbai and Hyderabad from Group B and Andhra and Jharkhand from Group A have claimed wins and made progress towards making the final.
Jaiswal smashes a scintillating ton
Mumbai has recorded the second-highest successful chase in SMAT history. After Ankit Kumar’s 89 took Haryana to a mammoth 234-run score, Mumbai looked in big trouble. But Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sarfaraz Khan had other ideas. The former scored a hundred from just 48 balls and departed in the 18th, after Mumbai had virtually won. As for Sarfaraz, he backed his hundred against Assam with a 64 from 25 while batting at number three.
Maramreddy Hemanth Reddy’s lone warrior knock
Taking inspiration from Mumbai, Andhra also managed to chase down a mammoth target of 206. Four batters from Punjab got 40s, propelling them past 200. Andhra lost 4 wickets in the powerplay and yet managed to win on the penultimate ball of the match. Maramreddy Hemanth Reddy led the way with an unbeaten 109 from 53 balls. The other top six batters combined to score 33 runs. SDNV Prasad helped him with a solid fifty, but it was him all the way through.
Siraj and Kishan show up
After taking 3 wickets against Mumbai, Mohammed Siraj has backed that performance by claiming 2 scalps against Rajasthan. The pacer from Hyderabad ended up as the most economical bowler of the match, giving away just 23 runs in 4 overs. Hyderabad chased the target of 179 with ease as Tanmay Agarwal scored another fifty.
Ishan Kishan continued his rich vein of form, scoring 63 from 30, but no other Jharkhand batter impressed. The target of 182 seemed underwhelming, but Madhya Pradesh didn’t get there. Harsh Gawali’s 61-run knock turned out to be a negative one, as he played 49 balls. Harpreet Singh Bhatia’s 48-ball 77 kept MP in the game, but they ended up losing by 1 run on the last ball of the match.
