It was just a couple of days back, that Rinku Singh went back home to see his ailing father.. and there were concerns, if he would be able to participate in India’s next Super 8 fixture against Zimbabwe, in Chennai on Thursday. Now, India’s batting coach Sitanshu Kotak has come up with an update on the same.
Rinku Singh to join team soon
Speaking at the pre-match conference, Kotak confirmed that Rinku would return, and join the squad on Wednesday. “Rinku Singh is coming back today evening. His father was not well. He went back. Hopefully he will join us today,” the coach said.
So far, Rinku has failed to make an impact in the ongoing T20 World Cup, scoring only 24 runs in the 5 matches he has played. The average has been only 8, while the strike-rate is 82.75. His best came against Pakistan, where he scored 11 in 4. But given the situation of the team, the management could be looking to replace him with Axar Patel.
Batting overall has been a struggle for the team, with Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma also failing to score big runs. Kotak hinted that someone like a Sanju Samson could be in the loop once again. “There have been discussions around that (Sanju Samson in the playing XI). We are thinking about making changes for the next match because both openers are left-handed and the number three batter is also left-handed. So we will see because we never decide the team early. But there will be thoughts,” he added.
India are in a must-win situation against Zimbabwe, and if they end up losing, their chances of getting ousted from the tournament, increase greatly.
