World No. 1 ODI batter Shubman Gill once again showed why he is the best in the world, as he slammed his 8th ton in the format, in India’s Champions Trophy 2025 opener vs Bangladesh in Dubai. In what was a risk-free innings by the Indian vice-captain, Shubman took 125 deliveries to reach his milestone.
Shubman Gill Scores Back-to-Back 100s
This is also Shubman Gill’s second consecutive ton in ODIs, after he scored 112 vs England in the last ODI, on Feb 12, in Ahmedabad. If that is not enough, he has been in sensational form in the last few innings. His last three innings scores read – 87, 60, 112 and now another ton vs Bangladesh.
This now means, Shubman, in 51 matches has scored 2687 runs now, at an average of over 62 and at a strike-rate of 100. Meanwhile, his innings was enough to take India to a six-wicket win, with over 20 deliveries to spare. He was well aided by Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul, who scored 41 each, to register their first win in the tournament.
Records Galore for Shubman
Meanwhile, this 100 also meant, Shubman surpassed the likes of Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, Gautam Gambhir and Sachin Tendulkar — to become the fastest Indian to eight ODI tons. While the vice-captain achieved it in 51 innings, Shikhar is the second quickest with 8 in 57 innings, followed by Virat in 68, Gambhir in 98, and Sachin in 111.
Having said that, it was a tough pitch, which took Shubman Gill 125 deliveries to register his hundred — India’s second slowest in ODIs since 2010. The slowest is in Sachin’s name — when he scored his 100th international century vs Bangladesh in 2012.
