Shubman Gill has been discharged from the Woodlands Hospital in Kolkata. The India Test captain was checked in after suffering a neck spasm on the second day of the India vs South Africa 1st Test. Gill had hurt himself while playing a shot and had to be taken to the hospital later that day.
Shubman Gill injury update
Gill had spent the night in the hospital as India lost by 30 runs at the Eden Gardens. A few hours after the match, Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president and former India captain Sourav Ganguly had come to meet Gill. Later in the evening, he was discharged.
“Captain Shubman Gill had a neck injury on Day 2 of the ongoing Test against South Africa in Kolkata. He was taken to the hospital for examination after the end of the day’s play. He is currently under observation in the hospital. He will take no further part in the Test match. He will continue to be monitored by the BCCI medical team,” BCCI had said in a statement on November 16.
Will Shubman Gill play IND vs SA 2nd Test?
As things stand, it’s uncertain whether Gill will feature in the India vs South Africa 2nd Test. Scheduled to be played from November 22 in Guwahati, the 26-year-old has about 5 days to recover. Reports had suggested that Gill miss the Guwahati Test, and we are yet to hear from BCCI or the Indian management about a fitness update.
After India lost, head coach Gautam Gambhir was asked whether Gill will captain the team in Guwahati, and he stated that a call would be taken by the medical team soon.
“He (Gill) is still being assessed. So, let’s see. The physios will take a call this evening,” Gambhir said in the post-match press conference.
