Shreyas Iyer eyeing Test return in India Tour of England, isn't thinking too much about BCCI's plan

Shreyas Iyer was dropped from India's Test team in February 2024 and hasn't returned to the side yet.

Shreyas Iyer isn’t satisfied yet. Winning the ICC Champions Trophy is enough to fill his hunger. The India cricket team’s highest scorer in the tournament wants to stamp his authority in the longest game format, Test cricket. Having donned the white jersey for three years, from 2021 to 2024, Shreyas wants to make a case for the India Test tour of England.

Test return on Shreyas Iyer’s mind

“Obviously there is… I want to play as much as I can. I have done well in the domestic tournaments, but let’s see what happens,” Shreyas Iyer told the Times of India.

The Mumbaiker did extremely well in the recently concluded season of the Ranji Trophy. Although he wasn’t captain, he played extremely well. He didn’t play the entire season, but in five matches, 480 runs in a 68.57 average, he showed that he’s a contender to fill the number five hole.

But Shreyas Iyer isn’t overthinking it. He’s doing the work and not thinking about what the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selectors have in plan for the India Test tour of England, which will begin on June 20. He has been at odds with BCCI following that back injury issue last year and was even chucked from the central contracts for 2024-25.

“I don’t want to think too much about it because the more I think, the more my mind will be taxed. It will basically get tired. I live in the moment, maze karta hu (I enjoy) and think about the match when it comes. I don’t think too much about (the) future or past. It has helped me a lot,” Shreyas added.
