Well, the Border Gavaskar Trophy is nearing its conclusion. And now the attention shifts to the ICC Champions Trophy. And this means Shreyas Iyer will now be back on the radar of the India Cricket Team. Just after the IND vs AUS Tests, India will take on England for the T20I and ODI series. Following this would be the much coveted ICC Champions Trophy.
Ever since his BCCI Central Contract snub, Shreyas Iyer is no longer a regular for the Men in Blue. However, after the appointment of Gautam Gambhir as the Indian head coach, Iyer went on to play in the ODI series against Sri Lanka in August. In the meantime, Iyer has been buy playing domestic cricket, ready to make his comeback in the National Team.
All eyes in ICC Champions Trophy
The main target is obviously the ICC Champions Trophy. India came close to lifting the ODI World Cup in 2023 but eventually lost to Australia in the finals. Shreyas Iyer was a key player for the Men in Blue in that event, and thus would naturally be in the picking order for the Indian squad for the Champions Trophy.
As a dependable batter, Iyer is known to play crucial knocks and has the ability to anchor innings for his side. While there is no surety if Iyer will be selected or not, he definitely is a strong contender in India’s middle order.

While India will likely be announcing the IND vs ENG and ICC Champions Trophy squad at the same time, it can be expected that Iyer will be present in both squads. Before the ICC event, Iyer would get some much-needed game time as India will take on the Three Lions for an ODI series that would conclude 8 days before the Champions Trophy starts.
