Former India cricket team star Shikhar Dhawan is the latest player to pull out of WLC 2025 matches against Pakistan Champions. He joins Harbhajan Singh, Irfan Pathan and his brother Yusuf Pathan who communicated their decisions to boycott games against Pakistan on Saturday. The match between India and Pakistan is scheduled to take place on July 20.
Dhawan refuses to play against Pakistan in WCL 2025
Taking to social media platform X, Dhawan issued a statement to confirm that he won’t be a part of any matches where India Champions will face Pakistan. The statement explains that the decision was taken by the southpaw in the backdrop of geopolitical tensions between India and Pakistan. Dhawan’s decision to skip games against Pakistan was reportedly communicated to WCL 2025 on May 11 by call and on WhatsApp.
With more Indian players pulling out of the match, the India vs Pakistan tie at WCL 2025 could potentially be cancelled.
Meanwhile, the Indian team in the tournament comprises of some the best players the country has seen. Apart from Bhajji, Irfan and Yusuf, the team is led by Yuvraj Singh, along with Shikhar Dhawan, Suresh Raina and Robin Uthappa. Some other ex-India players also feature in the team — Abhimanyu Mithun, Gurkeerat Maan, and Varun Aaron.
