Sarfaraz Khan’s father reveals ‘Virat Kohli-like’ diet behind 17 kg weight loss

Sarfaraz Khan's father reveals 'Virat Kohli-like' diet behind 17 kg weight loss

Sarfaraz Khan hasn't played a Test match for India since November 2024. In a bid to return to the team, he's been working hard on his game and fitness.

Sarfaraz Khan has undergone a serious physical transformation. The 27-year-old has shared that in the last 30-45 days, he’s lost 17 kilograms of weight. Sarfaraz almost looked unrecognisable when he shared his new look on social media.

His cricket fitness was never in doubt. Sarfaraz had made a habit of playing long innings in first-class cricket, so stamina and endurance weren’t an issue. He was nimble on his feet. Running between the wickets was probably the only weakness he had.

How a diet change changed Virat Kohli

But as every successful cricketer does, he wants to evolve. If not technically, or by increasing his range of shot, then by improving his fitness. We saw Virat Kohli go to a new level after 2012. Part of this is a combination of his skill and fitness. His running between the wickets reached a new level. His stamina and endurance went through the roof. Tired wasn’t a word in Kohli’s dictionary anymore.

A big part of Kohli’s physical transformation was diet. He hadn’t even eaten chocolate in months during those days. The former Indian captain had shared his diet in 2017. He shared that his meals of the day are meticulously planned.

“My breakfast is set. I eat an omelette with three egg whites, one whole egg, spinach with black pepper and cheese, and some grilled bacon or smoked salmon with it. I eat papaya, watermelon, or dragon fruit if it is available. I eat a decent amount of cheese for good fats. I carry my own butter, and I get gluten-free bread from the hotels. A nice big pot of green tea with lemon. I drink 3-4 cups of that. When our (Team India) trainer, Mr. Basu, tells me to put on a bit of muscle, then I increase red meat; otherwise, generally for lunch, it is grilled chicken and mashed potatoes, spinach and veggies, and for dinner, it’s seafood,” Kohli said on the show Breakfast with Champions.

Safaraz Khan following the same fitness route

Sarfaraz is taking the same route. His father, Naushad Khan, has revealed that his son has made significant changes to his diet. Traditional Indian food, like rice and roti, is now out of his diet completely. He’s eating grilled and boiled food. Drinking green tea. Sugar, flour, and baked items are out of his system entirely. Safaraz won’t be stopping there. He plans to lose even more weight and will continue on his trend.

“We have controlled our diet a lot. We have stopped eating roti, rice, etc. We haven’t eaten roti or rice at home for 1 to 1.5 months. We eat broccoli, carrots, cucumber, salad, and green vegetable salad. Along with that, we eat grilled fish, grilled chicken, boiled chicken, boiled eggs, etc. We are also having green tea and green coffee. We also eat avocados. There are sprouts also. But the main thing is that we have stopped eating roti and rice. We have stopped eating sugar. We have stopped eating maida (flour) and bakery items. He has almost lost 10 kgs within 1.5 months. He is working on reducing his weight even further,” Naushad told Hindustan Times.
