CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad was unfortunate in not getting a chance in the Indian team regularly. But now, in the IND vs SA series, he finally seems to be getting a decent run. So, after scoring 8 runs in the first encounter in Ranchi, the 28-year-old brought up maiden ton of his ODI career. You Can Follow the IND vs SA 2nd ODI Here
1st ODI 100 for Ruturaj Gaikwad
On a Raipur wicket that was playing all kinds of tricks, Ruturaj came up with a whirlwind 100 from 77 deliveries, and forged a valuable stand of over 195 with Virat Kohli as well; at a time when India were in a spot of bother at 62/2. What make this milestone even more special is the fact that this milestone came after a gap of two years in international cricket.
This ton holds a lot of significance, since the selectors might just be tempted to look at him as a long-term solution in the ODI format. Or at least there could be a tussle with the currently injured Shreyas Iyer as well, who is equally good, if not more.
Solid List A record
Prior to this encounter, his only 50 came vs Australia in September 2023, where he scored 71 vs Australia in a winning cause. In short, it has been 803 days, since he last got to a milestone in the format. But then such had been his form in the IND A vs SA A ODI series, where he score a ton and a 50, that he could not be overlooked anymore.
In fact, he has an impeccable LIST A record, where he has scored 4542 runs in 90 matches, at an average of over 56. That also includes 17 tons and 18 fifties. His strike-rate has been excellent too — 100, without taking much risks in the middle.
