Mumbai cricket team star Sarfaraz Khan was ecstatic after he was sold for Rs 75 lakh to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL 2026 auction. The batter, who has piled up runs across formats in the domestic circuit over the years, found no takers in the last two editions of the IPL. Khan initially went unsold in the first round of the mini-auction but was later picked up by CSK towards the end.
Sarfaraz indebted to CSK for fresh lease of life
Taking to Instagram, Sarfaraz posted a story and penned an emotional note. The Mumbai batter thanked CSK for giving him a new life and said that he would help the five-time champions lift the IPL 2026 trophy. Sarfaraz previously played for RCB and PBKS in the IPl.
“Thank you so much, CSK for giving me new life,” Sarfaraz wrote.
After going unsold in the initial round, CSK bid for the Mumbai batter in the later round. Despite having good numbers in domestic red-ball cricket and average numbers in white-ball formats, Sarfaraz went unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction last year.
The Mumbai batter has played in the IPL, as recent as 2023. He has an experience of 50 matches under his belt, where he scored 585 runs at an average of 22 and a strike rate of 130. Ever since breaking into the Indian setup, he is somehow looked at as a one format player. Sarfaraz had registered himself for the IPL 2026 auction at a base price of Rs 75 lakh.
