Shardul Thakur was the first Purple Cap holder of IPL 2025 after his career-best figures on Thursday. Now, Noor Ahmad will bag the prestigious cap.

Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) Rs 10 crore investment in Noor Ahmad at the IPL 2025 auction is proving to be a masterstroke. With the spin-friendly Chepauk surface favoring slow bowlers, Noor, alongside Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin, has emerged as a match-winner. The young Afghan left-arm wrist-spinner has now delivered another sensational spell, picking up seven wickets in eight overs for CSK, propelling himself to the top of the Purple Cap standings, surpassing Shardul Thakur.

Noor began IPL 2025 with a bang, bagging four wickets against the Mumbai Indians. His latest performance against RCB has made him CSK’s go-to bowler in the middle overs.

Noor Ahmad bamboozling RCB batting lineup

Bowling with precision, Noor Ahmad dismantled the RCB batting order. His spell included the prized scalps of Phil Salt, Virat Kohli, and Liam Livingstone.

Phil Salt, who was looking dangerous with a 32 off 16 balls, was undone by Noor’s flight and turn. MS Dhoni, yet again showing his brilliance behind the stumps at 43, executed a lightning-fast stumping to send Salt packing. Kohli, struggling to find rhythm, fell to a well-judged catch by Rachin Ravindra at deep midwicket, while Livingstone was bowled after attempting an aggressive slog-sweep. Despite conceding 15 runs in his final over, Noor ended with 3/36.
