In a fresh development, India cricket team captain Rohit Sharma is reportedly interested to play in the three unofficial ODIs between India A and Australia A. The Hitman was last seen in action in an international game in the Champions Trophy final earlier this year following which he announced his retirement from Tests.
Rohit Sharma wants to feature in India A vs Australia A matches
As per RevSportz, Rohit has expressed willingness to take part in the three unofficial ODIs in order to prepare for the Australia tour which will commence from October 19. The report states that although the Hitman commenced training a month ago, he wants to play against Australia A in order to prepare better and not be undercooked for the tour to Down Under. This development comes amid reports which claim that the series against Australia could might as well be Sharma’s last.
ODI is the only format that Rohit is currently active in, having retired from T20Is in 2024 and from Tests in May 2025. Earlier, reports stated that the selectors are looking beyond Sharma for the ODI World Cup in 2027. It added that the Indian captain would be asked to play in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, which commences in December 2025, in order to stay in contention for / spot in the ODI side.
On Thursday, a report also claimed that the selectors are expected to convene after the conclusion of the Asia Cup to discuss the future of the ODI team. The report also stated that Shreyas Iyer was the frontrunner to replace Rohit as the next ODI captain once the latter takes a call on his future.
