Just four days before the start of the India vs South Africa ODI series, former captain Rohit Sharma has once again become the new ICC ODI number 1 ranked batter. Just recently, he was toppled by New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell. However, due to Mitchell sitting out of the last two one-day internationals against the West Indies, he has slipped to number two. Meanwhile, Rohit has ascended to the first position with 781 ranking points, while Mitchell has 766.
Boost for Rohit Sharma before IND vs SA ODIs
India hit a new low after enduring a humiliating whitewash to South Africa in the Test series at home. However, the caravan now moves to the ODIs, where the returning Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will headline all the hype. They only play one format now and will look to build on what they did in the last ODI they played against Australia in Sydney. Rohit won the Player of the Series award for his 202 runs in the 3-match series.
Now, he has been preparing for the South Africa series, that starts on November 30 in Ranchi. Considering Rohit hasn’t played any competitive cricket since his 121-run knock against Australia in Sydney, the former India captain has to work extra hard to get match fit. To achieve that, Rohit has employed the services of the current Mumbai Indians (MI) team physiotherapist, Amit Dubey, who is well known in the cricket community.
Shubman Gill (4th), Virat Kohli (5th) and Shreyas Iyer (9th) are the other Indian batters part of the top 10 ODI batting list released by the ICC on November 26.
