Rishabh Pant ruled out of IND vs ENG Test series, Ishan Kishan to be added to squad

In what is a big blow for India, Rishabh Pant has been ruled out of action for at least 6 weeks due to a fractured toe

India cricket team vice-captain Rishabh Pant has reportedly been ruled out of the remainder of IND vs ENG Test series after suffering a fractured toe. The southpaw was hit on his leg off a delivery from Chris Woakes which forced him to be carried off the field on Day 1 of IND vs ENG 4th Test. Pant was seen hobbling and writhing in pain and was struggling to put pressure on his injured leg as he was helped off the field.

Pant blow for India amid IND vs ENG 4th Test

As per The Indian Express, Rishabh Pant has been advised 6 weeks of rest for a fractured toe that he sustained on Day 1 at Old Trafford. The batter attempted a reverse sweep when the ball hit the inside edge of his willow and went on to crash into his foot. Visuals of Pant being carried off the field showed that he had swelling in his ankle.

The scan report showed a fracture and he is ruled out for six weeks. The medical team is trying to see if he can come out to bat again by taking a pain killer. He still needs support to walk though and chances of his batting looks very bleak,” a source in the BCCI told the publication.

With Pant ruled out of the ongoing IND vs ENG 4th Test, India will be a batter short. The report states that the BCCI medical team will try to give him a pain-killer injection to see if he can bat in the 4th Test, although the chances are pretty bleak. The southpaw managed to score 37 runs from 48 deliveries before he was forced to retire injured. The report further claimed that the selectors are looking to add Ishan Kishan to the squad for the 5th Test.

India already have a back-up keeper in the form of Dhruv Jurel. The keeper-batter took over the gloves from Pant in the IND vs ENG 3rd Test at Lord’s after the latter sustained a fingee injury while trying to save a delivery off Jasprit Bumrah from going to the boundary.
